about tapping the line level BEFORE the amp. It is the cleanest way you can go and does not need a leveler to process the signal, just take it straight to hte amp and return the converter to tweeter. If you insist on checking your taps post stock amp, pre stock sub and it's STILL NOT IT and you do a bypass of the line converter and IT'S STILL NOT IT, then where you are pulling the signal from IS THE PROBLEM.

So the stock headunit *should* be outputting some kind of line level signal to the stock amp then eh?
and it does so through regular wires and NOT rca's?
wonder how i could figure out what all the wires in the stock amp are...

Really the type of wire that comes our of anything doesn't really matter. You can just about splice anything to anything and get it to do something. The wires that come out of the headunit are bundled but if you are lucky you can find a lead(one positive) and (one negative)!!
The most important thing to remember is that you need to find a line level lead that has had no messing with. That means no pulling leads from the speakers, or from the amp right before it hits the sub. Doing so might work, but in the long run would most likely do bad things to your amps sensitive MOSFET circuits.

Woo hoo!
Turns out my "wire taps" weren't tapping at all!
I re-did the sub output taps and i'm good to go!
Thanks everyone, i really appreciate it.
