Default still cant figure out where the gas smell is coming from??

i have a gas fume smell that is pretty strong and doesnt go away also have poor gas mileage, i was told to look at my n80 valve, checked it according to the manual and it is fine. The smell seems to be by the rear of the car/gas tank area. is there anything/devices that should be looked at back there? yes the gas cap is on, and there isnt any leaks. car has always ran rich, but the smell was never there.

Default have you checked the injector seals?

if you have alot of stains around the injectors on the intake manifold that could be a sign that the seals are toast.

Default The best way is to get the car on the lift, run the engine, that when fuel system pressurized....

to see any leak near gas tank. May be the fuel filter interconnect area

Default in the trunk under the mat there's a round cover.

I'd open that up and check it out, I know that has something to do with the gas tank.

Default Check the top of the tank......

where the sending unit is. We've had 2 A4's with bad seals there. Replaced O-ring , and no more gas smell.
