car is an early 2001 AWM engine. We completed the timing job, other belts, t-stat and water pump. Car is running well with no cooling problems now, but I never bled anything. Added coolant started it up and it drank the coolant right out of the tank, added more. Did this until only about 1/5 mixture in 1.5 litre coolant bottle. (mixed all and then put rest back into the coolant bottles). So it did not take the full 2 gallons of mixture.

turn heat on HIGH at FULL blast>
near the battery (to the right) under that plastic covering (prob has a zip tie on it)
You need to undo the clip to the left hose and pull that back untill that little hole is no longer being blocked by the pipe
After coolant starts to come out from that then you put that back on, top off as needed...
and then keep your RPM's @ 2000 for 3 minutes to make sure the temp doesnt spike
check if more coolant is needed... add if so
ALL of that with the cap OFF
