y dies @ idle. My exhaust is pretty coated in black grit so that makes me think i'm running rich.. after car dies at idle its often very hard to start.. i normally have to let it sit for a few minutes. engine flooded? I've taken my airbox off and everything looks clean where the MAF connects to the box.. does this sound in fact like its a faulty MAF....? Thanksss

be able to see if it's dirty, typically a thin oily film will cover the sensor which can cause it to operate incorectly. Most people don't need to replace their MAF's, it just depends on how bad it is. Also, alot of people will replace their MAF's for peace of mind since it is a common thing to go bad.
