Default Still under warranty, so why change timing belt?

If they will cover any damages, is there a reason to change the TB/WP now or just wait? I have 64000 miles as of now.

Default Do you try to hit nails right after you get new tires...

just because they say they'll fix them for free?

It saves a hassle just to do the preventative maintainance.

Default b/c they won't cover it! (Audi Certified that is)

I called Audi of America as well as several dealers to confirm that a Certified warranty will not cover broken timing belt or timing belt tensioner unless deemed that it was due to a waterpump failure. Any engine damage caused by timing belt failure is left to your wallet.

I was hoping to be able to wait another year, (I have 55k right now) want to wait until the certified warranty ends to get my timing belt changed b/c I figured heck if it breaks they will fix it. If you would like to hear for your self call audi of america 1-800-822-2834.

Default What about the standard Audi extended warranty with a new car? (m)

I have about 62K on my 01.5 and have been thinking about the same thing. The TB isn't listed for change until 70K I think? The extended warranty that I purchased covers me to 100K. So if the TB fails, prior to when Audi says I should change it, wouldn't they consider it covered? I would assume that if I don't fix it when the book tells me to that I would be stuck with the bill because they could say that I didn't follow their recommendations (even if it's only 10 miles late).

Default did you get a reference number I would like to call and note that in my file

b/c from my prior conversations with them they have made note in my file that I have been informed that the belt is not covered if it fails. I would have assumed just as Dolmangar stated that if it fails prior to the scheduled time then its covered. If you can provide this to me you will allow me to push off doing the the timing belt until next July or roughly 67k miles. Please advise : )

Default well...

I spoke with the lady about the issue, but there was no reference number. I told her my situation: I am under warranty until 100,000 miles or 2007, I'm at 64k miles and I was advised to change the belt between 60-70k miles. I asked her why I should do it since I'm still under warranty and would they cover it if it failed. She said they would cover it, but not a loaner. Also she said if it was due to lack of maint. they would not cover it. All in all I'm going to change it in a few weeks, I'm calling my dealership now to discuss it further.
