Is the stock exhaust diameter 1 7/8"? also...
is the first muffler looking thing from the front of the car the resonator? any purose of this other than to quiet the exhaust and make it more restrictive?

Resonator's purpose..
The resonator's purpose is more than to just quiet your car. It takes the wide range of frequency's that your car puts out and basically makes that range smaller. Gives you less high's and low's, and gives you more medium's, in a sense.
Just as a warning, I have a 99 2.8 QMS, with a MAGNAFLOW exhaust, and I removed my resonator to see how it sounded. It was too loud. I wanted loud, but this was "headache" loud. Resonator is back on, and car sounds mean.
