Strange sucking noise coming from Rt. Rear of car at startup. Any ideas?

If you have quattro the gas tank is shaped like an upside down U to accomodate the extra rear drive stuff, there is a pump that transfers gas from one side to the other, what you hear at start-up is the pump going.

Had same noise two days ago...fill gas tank and read other responses...no big deal.

Monica would not be a strange but an identifiable sucking sound. A strange sucking sound would likely be from Dr. Laura!
