Default Success! Installed 8-Disc Panasonic CX-DP88U Changer (long)

For those interested, I was able to get the Panasonic 8-DISC changer CX-DP88U to work with the Symph.(non-bose) system in my 00' A4.

The changer I bought locally from a Bay Area Fry's Electronics (Palo Alto), for $174 (you can get it for $169 if you ask for the open box).

The adapter cable I bought from audio-etcetera (www.audio-etcetera.com) for about $46 plus $8 shipping. Ask for the PIE AUD/PC-PAN8: this adapter will allow to access the 7th and 8th disk directly. Also the random function will work per disk.....The weird thing is that, to access the 7th and 8th disk, you don't use the "<" or ">" buttons on the top left, as the installation instructions said..Rather, you push the "5" button twice to access the 7th disk and you push the "6" button twice to access the 8th disk.

The most difficult thing was trying to fit the changer into the factory mounting bracket, since the changer is smaller then the 6-disc changer.
I just ended up buying some 8-32x 3/4" screws from the local Home Depot and some velcro to secure the changer on the bottom.

But if you're willing to deal with the small hassle of mounting bracket, it's well worth it. The 6 disc models are actually more expensible because according to some of the dealers, there's slightly higher demand for them and a shorter supply. (VW's with the monsoon system cannot use the 8 disc). Plus the two extra disk space.

Regards.

Default Re: Success! Installed 8-Disc Panasonic CX-DP88U Changer (long)

I've got a 97 A4 1.8T, and I was wondering what I need to do to install a cd-changer. I haven't yet checked to see if the car is pre-wired (I just got it on Saturday)... and if it is, what adapter I might need (obviously dependent on what brand changer I use). Not much luck finding anything on the web (Google has been fairly useless) for earlier than the 98 model year. BTW, I've got the Bose system.

Any pointers?
