I am about to replace the potentiometer in my 99 A4, just waiting for the part from the dealer.
I have the light and sunroof switch assembly out of the car. The only problem I'm facing is how the potentiometer (part # 8D0 898 153) is sperated from the switch.
From a picture i've seen on the net, it is attached by a nut and washer. How do I get access to that nut?

Well thats a start.
The only thing is that I dont see the nut. It is between the back side of the switch and the potentiometer itself.

The **** that you use to open/close the sunroof comes right off (just pull it straight out). The nut is in there, and you will need a socket to get it off. I don't remember off-hand what size socket, sorry.

btw, how much did the dealer charge you for a new switch?

I ended up paying $145CAN, not including taxes.
I really don't know of any parts dealers in Canada, besides Audi. I doubt it would be much cheaper if I ordered it from the US, and had it shipped.
