and the shade is now stained. The dealer I bought it from (Reno) wants me to send it in. Is it easy to take off? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

oh **** handles. At that point the whole headliner should drop down, and they can replace the headliner and/or sunshade.
As for the leak...it's either a cracked drain channel, or a plugged/loose drain hose (there are four of them up there that carry water down to the door jam or wheel well areas, where the water is drained.

... the wheel wells. The rear drain tubes may even lead to the area behind the sides of the rear bumper cover (that's the way my VWs were).
These white plastic tubes are often clogged w/ decomposed tree debris - leaves, etc. - & stop the ability for the sunroof cartridge to properly drain. The water backs up the tubes & dumps in the car. Lame.
Pull the front wheel well liners &/or look up under the rear bumper, find the end of the tubes, & blow 'em out w/ compressed air. Make sure the sunroof is open & you've taped some plastic from inside (up on the headliner) to keep all that cruddy black **** from blasting all over the interior.
Good luck.
