Supercharger gurus, need your opinion
Cracked open the wife's supercharger ('99 Mazda Millenia S) access door to take a peak in and found dried oil on the cover lid and a similar color inside the compressor unit. Looked at the impellers, and saw they were the same color and had dirt built up on the edges of them.
Is this amount of oil inside a Lysholm compressor normal? Boost is very smooth, no hesitation, and no smoke out of the tail pipe.

Do you change the oil and ever put an air filter on it?? Crikey........
That is dirty!
I would do a flush for sure and then check that there are no intake leaks and that it even has an air filter on it!
Normal for sure to have some residue but that is pretty dirty looking... or is it just where the plate bolts on that the "grit" is?

Oh, and FWIW I have checked out my wifey's Cooper S SC and it was *very* clean inside.
64K miles, synthetic only and OEM air filter.
A lot of what you are seeing on the Mazy is probably blow-by from the breather......

I've never, ever once worked on the car before. My dad always handled the service since he owned it
I have no idea what kind of oil or air filter change history the car has.
The grit is on the edge of the rotors like it's been flung off under the spinning power.
I am not happy about the car's condition and that a rebuilt SC is $1,600.

Jah. I have a new post-cat O2 sensor and spark plugs on there way in. I plan on doing
a full Maximum Kick-*** service on this car when I acquire all the parts.

Does that charger use it's own oiling system?
If so, the only way it could get dirty would be from the air it's sucking in. It wouldn't have to deal with the after effects of combustion, like regular engine oil.
The SC I just bought was extremely clean(10k on it), internally oiled. I think that may have a lot to do with it. As long as the blades aren't worn, it shouldn't matter how dirty it is, besides the fact the the grime is going straight into the cylinders.
I would try an auto-rx or seafoam treatment, then switch to synthetic.
