Ever since I had my Konis swapped for Bilsteins, I've noticed a slight "clunk" or play in the front left. I was looking at the old Konis last night and thinking about re-installing them at a firmer setting. I discovered that the fronts have a black plastic sleeve on top of the shock body that was not there when I originally bought them. I can only assume that these came with my original factory non-sport setup and were left on the car with the Konis.
Could it be that there is play between the shock body and the lower spring retainer, since these plastic sleeves are not installed? Can anyone post a suspension breakdown from the Bentley CD? Opinions appreciated. I'll also ask my installer. TIA.

I only feel the play/looseness when the suspension is unloaded or at least settled (not during loaded cornering on that side, etc), like when I enter my driveway or slow over a small bump.

I don't know the Koni shocks, but I moved that black plastic sleeve from the stock sport shocks to my Bilstien shocks. It fits over the bump stop, which I moved over as well. I hope that isn't still on your Koni shock.
Have you put a wrench on all the bolts under there? There are the 3 that are under the hood, then 2 on top of the control arm thing (those are inaccesible on the car), and finally all the control linkages.
Good luck,
Rich

I had a local Audi shop check it and they said eveything was fine (all bolts are tightened to spec). I bet it's the lack of the plastic sleeve. Not sure why it doesn't have the same play on the right side though.
