i currently have a4 h&r ultra sport coilovers and want to buy a set of h&r s4 coilovers to replace them but the shocks are worn. Does anyone know if my a4 shocks will work with the s4 springs to get that stiffer suspension.
any help is appreciated.

Just kidding... why are you talking about using shocks from your A4 with coilovers? Coilovers are basically spring/shock combos - what do you plan on re-using from what and onto what?

i have h&r coilover suspension for an a4, i want to change the springs on them to h&r s4 springs. Im asking if the a4 h&r coilover shocks that i have will work with the s4 springs.
yes
no

the a4 h&r regular COs are 395f/r.
the s4 h&r regular COs are 450f/r.
only slightly stiffer, and no front bias to compensate for front end of s4.
however, i would think the valving would also be diffrent for the front suspension. but many have a4'ers done it and were happy w/the results. s4 people find this setup slightly soft.
as for as your situation nizmo..
you said the shocks are worn, replacing the springs on your current Ultra Sport coilovers (iirc 600f/625r) with S4 Springs(450f/r) wont make the ride STIFFER in anyway. it will only:
1) since your shocks are blown the lower spring rate will make them travel much more. this would probably just wear them down even more and faster.
2) not to mention the valving would be off for those springs, so not sure how good the ride would be (H&R COs regular/Ultra sport don't have adjustability, only the PCS).
if i misunderstood your question and u want to trade up for S4 Ultra Sport Springs w/your crapped up shocks. yes it would turn out to be stiffer, but you would bounce up and down like crazy because of not enough dampening. horrible ride quality.
remember from physics.
b = 2*sqrt(mk)
where b = critical dampening rate (displacement returns to zero exponentially in the shortest timethe car suspension is as soft as possible without a disturbing oscillation after a bump)
m = mass being held up
k = spring constant of spring.
the reason people buy coilovers is to get a properly matched spring and dampener, you are going backwards.
springs don't go bad, shocks do. if u have more than 60k on that suspension i would just go for a new H&R CO setup. another option would be you could just keep your springs, and try and get H&R to rebuild the shocks.
