Default Suspension: Anything besides coil-overs leaves to little travel??(long)

And yes I have read the entire springs archive!
I talked to a guy at GPR and he made it very clear that he did not think it was a good idea to put any lowering springs on the A4. He said the way the suspension was designed did not leave enough room for travel if lowering springs were used. He said this caused the suspension to bottom out fairly easily over medium sized bumps.
He did say, however, that a coil-over system could be used($1600) just fine due to its different perch height.
I had a 4000Q with H&R springs/boge sport shocks and it took 4 people in my car to bottom out my suspension over bumps(acceptable).
I want to upgrade my suspension on my A4 with H&R Sport springs and Bilstein shocks but do not want my suspension to bottom out on a regular basis.
Spring/Shock folks: Do you have problems with bottoming out the suspension? How many inches of travel do you estimate you have with your particular setup?
Coilover folks: Do the coilovers really do give you more travel due to the perch height? How much?
My money is your hands..
thanks
mg
98.5 1.8Tqms 17" TSW Hockenheims 225/45 P7000ss

Default I only bottomed out the suspension once...

... and that was during construction on I-90 when I hit a piece of highway that hadn't yet been smoothed... suspension bottomed out when I landed. Not a happy noise from the Koni's.
I'd highly recommend the adjustable KoniSport shocks with H&R Race springs, they've worked well for me. I can't honestly say that I've driven other modified config.'s that my config. is better than (haven't driven many suspension-modified A4's), but it's much better than the factory sport suspension.
Cameron
I heard the KWs were better than the H&Rs but I am not exactly sure why. Why do you like them?
mg
