Default Re: Suspension Question... Difference between Quattro and Frontrak... suspension..

Quattro has independent rear suspension while Front Trak does not. Therefore better handling with Quattro.

Default Torsion Beam axle (FWD) / Double Control Arm (Quattro) (more)

check out this URL

http://www.bath.ac.uk/~en8jd/rearsusp.htm

FrontTrak has the "Twist Axle" as the Brits call it.

Quattro has the "Trailing Arm" Independent Rear Suspension.

The "twist axle" is not exactly "non-independant"

Quattro has Double A Arm while the Front track has the Trailing arms.

Default Different Part No's for Eibach (more)

There are different part no's for Eibach ProKit springs for the FrontTrak and the Quattro.

The Quattro is heavier, and has a different wheelbase...Heavier and different load distribution would call for different spring constants (= different springs)

Since the rear setup is completely different, I would imagine that the rear springs can not be the same. I could be wrong.

Call or e-mail Eibach, I have the Pro-Kit in mine and I had to wait over 3 months for mine to come in. I double and triple checked them before getting the install done...

From a manufacturing standpoint (since I'm a product design engineer), less independent parts the better. There is a reason for separate part no's... especially if the cost is the same for both. They would just build and stock one model for both FT and Quattro if they could. It might be swapable, but the springs might not perform to spec in the "wrong" vehicle. (i.e., mismatched damping of shocks and springs)

Hope you find a solution!

Default Thanks mister FUZZY..

I hope in the future somebody has time to deteremine which parts are switchable and which are not. I mean VW and Audi are about, but VW parts aren't as well expensive as Audi. Well its not that much less expensive but still. What if you find this really cheap exhaust but its made for the 4 motion passat.. is it goign to fit the audi's? or how bout the gauge cluster from a s4 into a older a4. ?? you know how it goes.
