simple!! thanks to dmak (donny) it took us about 15 minutes to swap the grandpa-ish 4 spoke wheel for the sportier cousin, the three spoke sport wheel. i must say that im really really happy with the sport wheel. this was one of the things i wish i couldve changed when i placed my order..
alot of ppl in the archives said it could not be done, that you would have to change out the hub, and possibly even the steering column.. all false! we swapped between identical 1999 model year cars.. all we needed were 1 torx wrench (long neck screwdriver type, dunno what size), and this huge starish torxish bit (thanks donny!), wire clippers and electrical tape.
take off the airbag by removing the two torx screws in the back of the steering wheel, unplug the harness, use that large starish torxish bit to remove the old wheel, then get the wiring straight.. donny figured out the proper wiring for the airbag by looking at the way it was wired up before he removed his sport wheel. the horn on the nonsport wheel is only one ground, while the horn on the sport wheel is two.. once you get the wiring done, do everything in reverse.. i recommend that you drive a little bit in a straight line before you tighten the lug up all the way so that you can figure out where dead center is.. then tighten..
my airbag light came on probably because i started my car w/o the airbag.. i vwtooled the error away and now its perfect!!
thanks donny!!!
