Default Sway bar bushing mod/upgrade(in process)...

Ever since I've outfitted the families old 4runner with urethane bushings throughout, the improvement was so striking that its got me thinking about the A4. I put the audi up on ramps to mic out the sizes(29mm front, 15mm rear). Its a good thing as well, since the book says the car is supposed to have a 27mm front sway bar(sport option) and it turns out the factory used an S4 version(29mm) instead. Checking out the few options for urethane bushings(read: pricey), and or spend $500-600 for H&R sway bars. I found some greasable(not needed)universal urethane suspension bushings with brackets for the front and rear at $36. Figured not much can be lost if it does not work out but it looks hopeful. I'll need to make a mounting base for the fronts which will be simple. I'll keep the forum updated as it might turn out to be a very simple and cost effective upgrade. Hopeing the rain will stop here

Default I have my doubts to how much some bushings will compare to having a full set of sways...

Staying flat while hammering a turn is something I don't think the bushings have as much to do with as having massive sways. Things don't really feel too different until you take a turn... It's not like the snub-mount.

I'm sure you know this, but the difference the H-Sports made is still pretty fresh in my head.

Good luck, though!

Default that 27mm is a misprint.....

both the standard and the sports front bar for our cars are 29mm. the stock being tubular while the sports is solid.

I hear you, but I've found urethane makes a huge difference over standard oem rubber(too much give, breaks down quickly with age). The upgraded rear metal sway bar links made a marked difference after installation on our 30v.Turn in was greatly improved. We're on alot of ramps(hwy) going between countries and ferries. I think if I were going to install lowering springs or coilovers I'd opt for the H&R set-up. I'm just going to install a new set of Bilstein HD's with a new control arm kit. With this set-up it might be overkill. Did do anything to upgrade the front sway bar links?

Default Interesting.....

Thanks. I find the manuals and docs on these cars to be off and sparse. I wish they did their factory manuals like toyota or porsche(ie much more techincal detail).

Default You are so correct . I've done urethane bushings on 3 cars and a truck

and they make a world of difference . Quicker take up of the sway bars torque because of reduced bushing deflection made them all handle better . Amazingly on some vehicles it can decrease ride comfort but in one case comfort got better because the two front suspensions worked more in harmony and distributed impacts better.

My father drove the 4runner I installed them on before and after, he could not believe it was the same vehicle(in a good way). The bushings definitely stiffen up the ride on the 911 but that car was pretty raw to begin with. The bushings vastly improved the ride quality on the truck. No more wondering, better steering, improved turn in and cornering(the list goes on). You might find the place in the link interesting. The thing is, you really need to do some research and sizing before contacting them.

urethane bushings

Default My favorite old car , my old 92 Cavalier RS V6 Wagon ...ok laugh now then read.

I ordered it at work when our daughter was little . I used urethane bushings on it to perform handling miracles . It had a relatively unknown available factory Z51 option number just like Vette has used . This is considered (yes even on a Cavalier Wagon) a gymkana suspension . Since I ordered it for myself and knew guys working at the GM Lordstown facility it came away just right. I had factory upper and lower front strut bars, gas struts and shocks,Z24 steering w/2.5 turns lock to lock ,32mm front bar and a 22mm rear bar with urethane front links, Eagle RSA tires, plus the highest rate stiffest springs available in any Cavalier ,stiffer than stock Z-24 that year. After a few years I removed the factory installed urethane end links and put in higher durometer aftermarket ones and urethane frame bushings on front and rear got new stiffer inner urethane and fresh outer rubber . That coupled with 18 lb ASA wheels with +10mm extra offset from stock and some stickier rubber made it pull about a .83g cornering . It would easily outhandle the Prelude that I'd had . It may have looked like a grocery getter but everyone who drove it at work was surprised. It was only modified up to about 165 hp and 195 ft/lbs but at 2600 lbs ,15.3 qtr at 90 mph was my best time. The urethane made it handle like a go cart ,low body roll ,very flat and it would dart into a turn when whipped off center with only moderate understeer. It goes to prove that with the proper pieces you can make anything handle.

http://www.p-s-t.com/</a

Default Nothing on the front sway bar links yet. I tried to look for a set of CPP front sway bar links...

But, they're pretty hard to find. I just got my set of front and read upper control arms from them, but I couldn't find any place that still had or could order the front sway bar links. I wish there were an alternative or something... I guess I could use the Perrin WRX links, but the fact that it's longer than the stock one makes me wonder.

The 10mm difference in Perrin links no prob . Aftermarket substitutes Audi for rear on Subaru.
