I just picked up a '99.5 1.8t w/ 32k and was wondering if I should switch over the Mobile1? It will be used a daily driver in the N.E. area. What percentage of people use synthetic in their A4's? tia

It offers better protection for the engine in hot and cold climates. That is particularly important with a turbocharged engine.
In the general population, synthetic oil is not commonly used...it's nearly 4 times more expensive than conventional oil!

I then learned of 0W40 (available at Mobil distributors, Porsche, and Mercedes dealers), and started using that. Seems to work pretty well. If you're inclined to go through the trouble to find the 0W40, use that, if you want off the shelf Mobil products, 0W30 should serve you fine.

I had a Boxster and Porsche now factory fills them w/ that 0w40 weight. I was using 15w50, but I understand that the boxer engine is very different than our A4's.
