Default 0W-40, or at least that's what i bring them. That doesn't neccesarily mean thats what is in my car

I always wonder if they actually use my oil, or use their 5W-30 dino oil and keep mine for their car.

Default Why do so many people think that? Do you really think a tech is going to steal 4 qts of oil

and take the chance of losing his/her job?

Default M1 0w-40, which it seems that most AutoZones are now carrying. I get mine via a local distributor.

Default To be frank, I think the customer is at fault in some of these situations. I have a good

relationship with my advisors, SM, and the techs that work on my car.

You have the choice of being passive and let the dealer walk all over you, you can be an a$$ every time you're there and the dealer will be a PITA to you when they get the chance, or, you can be the nice guy and get to know your advisor, SM and techs. I would recommend the latter.

Also, reminding your favorite tech that there is cooler in the trunk with his favorite 6-pack couldn't hurt either.

you're right and there's definitely the "right" way to speak to the service managers. however, over the last 3 years, i've experienced some scary stuff.
PaulMiller Porsche(Parsipany,NJ) not able to diagnose a battery leak in my '99 986. they tested the alternator and returned the car back to me not fixed. i pulled the battery myself and sat it on a piece of paper in order to expose the slow leak.
CherryHill Porsche/Audi/VW(CherryHill, NJ) couldn't diagnose a faulty Temp Sensor in my '85 911 and I later found out that they sub-contract out work to local shops for the really "tough" jobs.
These are only 2 episodes and there are many others ranging from damage due to "complementary" car washes to over/under filling oil. If you have a trustworthy dealerhip that is competant, I would consider yourself very lucky. I find the best route to take is to find an experienced independant shop. You'll pay more in some cases, but it's worth it.
