Thinking of getting them but don't want to go through a lot of pads. Any suggestions

Cross drilled are fine. Slotted help promote even brake pad wear.

They WILL crack and the cracks will play connect the dots. Why not look at Slotted only rotors. They help the pad wear evenly and keep the pad surface from getting 'glass like'.

Phil who thinks if you take away metal you also take away stopping power. But what does he know!

Default That's kind of a silly argument. People will sell anything if consumers will buy it.

A4 BOVs are one example.

Cross drilled will eventually crack with aggressive heat cycling.

Default It's true.

If you introduce edges on the rotor face, you will wear the pads faster than if you left the rotor surface smooth. I would guess most people who install slotted and drilled rotors aren't concerned about pad longevity, and hence, you don't hear complaints about it.
