Just got back from the STEALERSHIP and they told me that I need to START with replacing the TCU which they told me would be $2000. Got online and found MANY for $150-$250. The VAG-COM tells me my TCU number is 8D0 927 156 Q. Invoice tells me I need part number 8D0 927 156 BN. Car is a 98.5 2.8 Quattro with Tip. What they heck, are they the same, which is right?

before it went bad. Went bad on the trip up to get chips installed. Had to have the number to order the chip so we vag-com'd and got the number. Now it won't take any codes and dealer said replace it.

we read the number with the VAG-COM off of the TCU BEFORE it went bad. I needed the number for the place that was installing the chip so they could order the correct one. THEN, on my way to Chicago where I was going to have the chip installed, my car went into LIMP mode. When I went to my appointment the next day. The VAG read that the ECU and TCU were not communicating. The TCU would not take any codes. The guys at Dubwerks told me to try the dealer and perhaps they could force code it. Went to the dealer this morning, they could not get it to take a code and told me to replace the TCU. They toldme I need part number 8D0 927 156 BN. BEFORE the TCU needed replacing, the VAG told me its number was 8D0 927 156 Q. I am wondering which is the correct part if they are, in fact, two seperate part numbers.

I wouldnt rely on that.... especially if a chip was already installed.... pull out the TCU yourself and read the part number of the vehicle itself.
