I think the reward for best response goes to you...
Out of all the A4 and S4 guys and gals, you made the most sense, and helped the most.
Fortunately I won't be replacing the tie rod assembly, even though it was rusted over I managed to continually spray the area with WD-40 and eventually wrest it's gript from the tie rod end.
