Default temp gauge erratic

I have 2000 model 1.8t temp gauge fluctuates between 0 and 90deg when eng appears to be at normal operating temp some time goes back to 0 thenmay be back up to 60deg may be temp sender? any one experienced this

yup... coolant temp sensor. I've replaced mine twice.

Default It can be a b!tch... the sensor is located on the between the firewall and back of the head

replacement is mostly done by feel and having a set of small hands helps. Make sure you get a new o-ring and clip along w/ the sensor as they tend to rot or break. Check the tech section for a write-up on replacing the sensor.
