Default Is there any hope for a FWD A4?

Hello,
I'm new to Audiworld and really enjoy reading all your messages and seeing the pictures of your cars and the mods you've done to them. I have a FWD 2000 A4 1.8T, Santorin, 5-spd, Sport, with Borbet Type E 17x7 wheels. I forced myself to buy the non-Quattro because I didn't want to be tempted to modify the car too much. My modifying budget at that time needed to go to the 911 that I Club Race and Autocross.

I love my A4, but wonder should I trade it in for a 2001 A4 1.8T w/Quattro if modifying interests me? Is the extra 20HP on the 2001 very noticeable? Is the Quattro A4 the only one that is really worth modding?

Thanks in advance.

Default There's plenty of hope for the FWD...but it won't ever be quite what the Quattro car is...

that's why I sold mine. The non independent rear end alone was almost reason enough. In my case I felt like I was chasing good money after bad at a certain point because I'd simply built a wheelspin machine...but it was still a total blast to drive ;-)

If you wanna check it out goto www.geocities.com/jrpsl

Default quattro, quattro, quattro!

I drove a chip A4 front trak and it did feel more eager, but man talk about traction problems. I was able light those tires up not to mention 2nd gear burn outs (not chirps). Quattro feels much more stable, but if you are not an aggressive driver keep what you have. If you are planning to modifying than go QUATTRO!

Default Consider this 280hp, superchargerd FWD....

Keep the FWD and mod to your hearts content. It will never handle and grip like a quattro, but that shouldn't hold you back from modding it.

SC A4

Default Stage 2 FWD around here is king of AutoX...

RPI autoX, JWKim on Audiworld with a stage 2 FWD A4 whooped EVERYONE's but, except the SCCA trained guy. There is more then hope, there is an advantage of 300 pounds! Not saying I don't love quattro, but there is hope!

Default It as ups and downs, depends on your needs

Quattro kicks *** in snow, and in something over 250hp where its difficult to hook up less than 4 wheels on takeoff. Handling on all surfaces is better too.

Fwd, however, is lighter, and more fuel efficient, hence, a little faster when traction is good.

If you're into mods, you will modify either one you choose, so choose according to your needs and have at it!

Default I have a FWD and I'm rather happy with it....

I had it chipped at 5K and it's a total blast to drive! Granted, you have to get used to the feeling of the accelerator so you don't spin your tires out. I also ordered a Cat-Back exhaust, Neuspeed ShortShifter and Forge DV...I'll give impressions after those mods are installed.

As for further performance mods....I probably would only do APR stage III or K04 in a Quattro A4. However, I have corresponded with a couple of VW Passat owners that have APR stage III and really love it! The one guy will be installing something called a Quaife Differential (powers both drive wheels)and he'll give me his impressions afterwards.

That said....my next Audi WILL be Quattro! :-)
