Can you just swap it? Is it legal? Doesn't it store the odometer reading as well?

Default You can't roll mileage back, but you can roll it forwards...

Care to guess how you fix the faulty trip computers? Yes, it's legal.

Default As long as you roll it forward to the right value... I got it done once but at the dealership..

Who's keeping track? That's what I'd like to know.

IIRC - you can only roll it forward if you have less than 100kms on it.

Default That's what I heard. Meaning you need a brand new one

Once I read about that, I kind of stopped searching on EBay for a dash cluster. I only have a faulty dimmer dial, so I won't pay $400 for a new one. I'm tempted to try to crack into it and see if I can fix it or maybe solder a new dial in.

Default dmv keeps track and stuff. the dealer ship has the code to do that and the code is not public yet

so until it gets public you cant play with the odometers much
