Default i disagree with the "cheesegrater" effect. i have had my pads/drilled rotors

for over 3 years now, and i still have 35% of my pads left and they are wearing very evenly.

i guess it all depends on how hard/often you brake, or if you track your car.

Default *ding*

Pad wear is very dependent on driving habits. I had a set of mintex pads on my A4 installed at 13K miles. I sold the car at 48K miles, and had the dealer inspect the pads prior to sale. He reported that the pads had worn about 25%. If you could isolate all the other variables, I'm sure you would see x drilled rotors reducing pad life. There are a lot more "biting edges" on that rotor once you drill it.

Default Well, I have 2 A4s; one with, one without cross drilled.

And we have SERIOUS rain down here in FL. I have felt the wet braking issue in my wife's A4 (non drilled), but never in my A4 (drilled rotors from day 1).

Another possible benefit: my wife's car warps rotors about once a year. My cross drilled rotors have about 45K on them....doing just fine. And I am harder on my brakes than my wife...

And.....i'll admit......I just love the looks of cross drilled.

Default Zimmerman x-drilled rotors and Mintex pads

did not help my wet braking issue. Sorry.

Default Thanks for the info. Some added data

Have noted the wet braking problem with both OE 16" 7 spoke wheels I use for summer tires and the OE 15" 8 spoke wheels I have the snows mounted on.

Have Pagid pads on the car now (from Blaufergnugen - no better data); on the car for 36K miles and still prob. have over 1/3 pad thickness left. I like the pads (no squeal, no dust) but they don't help the wet braking issue. The theory of the pad composition is interesting; as an attempt to reduce the brake dust with the OE pads I switched to Raybestos pads front & rear. Squealed like crazy and now that I think back the wet braking was worse with them. So, the pad material might be a cause. Problem is trying to find a pad that cures it; nobody has consistent data.

The Audi "Wet braking" kit composed of brake splash guards behind the rotors and little water dams at the bottom forward edge of the front wheel wells. Hardly helped at all. Also they turned the oil change intoa nightmare since they were pop-riveted to both the undertray and the wheel well plastic liners, making all of these one piece! I also bottomed out a few times (worn shocks; since replaced) and have destroyed these dams. Have since cut them partially off.
