i think that you're making a good decision with the 17" rims. There are a few reasons why i think this, basing my opinions off of my research of the past couple of days.
I too am going with 17" rims, BBS RC's to be exact. The reasons being, a) BBS rims are strong, and well known for being strong. I know a few people that have 18's that dont worry about a thing. b)buying 17" rims puts you in the middle, there is not much different in performance between the 17" and 18" rims, most of it is just for looks.
c)buying a slightly smaller rim gives a tad more tire to cushion any unexpected harsh bumps that might come along
d)17" rims dont seem to be much of a problem in the winter, I know a few people who run 17" rims as their winter setups. So, people with just enough cash to get new wheels wont have to worry about gettin a seperate winter and summer setup.
and e) since im using my car as a daily driver, im sometimes going to be hauling crap from one place to another, and i dont want to have to worry about the extra weight affecting the wheels. Now granted it will always be in the back of my head, but less so than a set of 18's would be.
just my two cents, if anyone has anything that i missed or that im wrong about pls correct me =D
