For those who've dumped their washer fluid.

On 31 May 2001, my washer fluid pump had a casing crack and was replaced. I didn't know until today that there are two pumps.
Today, my headlight washer pump was replaced for the same crack forming in the casing under thermal stress. It turns out that the pump I had replaced last year was for the windscreen.
The Carlsen tech swears that they installed a redesigned pump for the fix, so I shouldn't have this problem again. He claims that's probably why the same pump didn't fail again, but now the second pump has; and I now have two better pumps.
My question is: If they all knew that the original pumps' thermal design was defective, why didn't they replace both pumps the first time that I brought the car in?
So, if your washer fluid tank won't hold any fluid, DEMAND that the techs replace BOTH pumps, so that you don't have to risk bringing the car back again.
And people wonder how Mitsubishi could get away with sweeping known problems under the rug instead of issuing recalls; Audi is still doing it!

and I have had mine in there numerous times... why did they not fix them all at once? cause it is cheaper not to... I mean that is not to say audi is cheap, the the service dept.s run under dramatically different rules and expectations than the rest of the company...

The origanl pump has a high failure rate. You had to return and they had to replace the next pumps anyway, so they didn't save anything on the cost of the replacement pumps. However, if they'd replaced all of the pumps at the first occassion, then they would've saved money in total labor man-hours. It take more man-hours to have to do the job again.
The more people who bitch, the better service we'll get. Call Shanon at Audi Customer Service, 800- 822-2834, and reference Ref # 20161298.
We pay more for a car for a reason. Let's fight to get our money's worth. The car business is very competitive, and they are worried that we'll buy a Lexus instead of an A6
