Default Those of you with a radar detector and tint

Have you noticed a decrease in performance in your radar detector after getting your windows tinted (especially rear detection from the tinted back window)? I have a escort 8500 and am about to get my windows tinted, should I be concerned much about this? Escort says not to place the detector up by the sun visor because it diminishes laser detection. Usually cops dont use laser from behind so I figure it should be ok. Any thoughts?

Default i dont notice a difference at all

The reason why they don't want detector moutning by the sunvisor is when its flipped down, it blocks the laser reciever from picking up in the rear.

You should be fine with the tint.

If you're tinting your windsheild i'd be a little more concerned.

Default Tint blocks light. Laser is light.

So yes, tint will drastically affect laser. I've never seen a cop targeting cars from behind. I have heard of them doing it...but it's very very rare.

Default if your rader is alerting you of laser its generally too late...

The size of a laser beam compared to a radar beam is tiny.

Default once you get a laser alert on your RD and you don't have a laser jammer

you're pretty much in for it.

Default again, small beam.. you're probably still screwed

since the jammer is passive it has to pick up the beam before it can "jam" it.. if the beam is targeting your front license plate, you have little hope that your detector/jammer is going to help. i wouldn't waste my time on a jammer or the accuracy of a laser detector.

Default Sounds like you're speaking based on theory...

Which doesn't seem to take into account all the positive experiences posted by people on laser jammers...esp from the likes of people like DonP.
