Default For those of you who go on and on about the best snow tire......I have found the answer!

Stick your conti's and dunlops back in the garage, the problem is the you are using the wrong tire!

General Altimax Arctic

I really put these tires to the test on Saturday, and they performed flawlessly. I cannot imagine someone wanting or needing more out of a dedicated directional non-studded snow tire. These things took everything I threw at them and laughed about it.

I got them for $89/ea. installed at a local tire shop BTW. I don't understand how another make/model of tire could possibly be better than this. Seriously this tire made, ice, slush, light and deep snow it's bitch.

http://www.tirerack.com/images/tires/general/ge_altimax_arctic_ci2_l.jpg

Default Their whole new line-up is great. I have Altimax and Exclaim. Conti is the parent company...

The Altimax HP are a lot like ContiExtemes, just cheaper.

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-Truck-Parts-Accessories__Hankook-IceBear-W300-snow-tires-205-60-16-Set-of-4-199_W0QQitemZ190280766952QQadiZ2865QQadnZCarQ20Q26 Q20TruckQ20PartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQcmdZViewItem QQptZMotors_Car_Truck

My brother has them, and loves them in deep snow.

Default I looked up the weight on those...

Continental must use lead shot in place of steel banding.

Default Actually.. there's a LOT of long term opinions on these.....

... Since it's a rebranded Gislaved Nordfrost3. Yep. Made in Germany, sold here under General name for nice and cheap :-D

It's a great tire. I've driven a few cars on those tires this winter and really, really like them. Great grip, very predictable. A friend who ice races (non-studded) really enjoyed them on the ice track as well.

Default while those tires are good, you simply can not say they are the best...

until you try about 10+ others and really know what makes one better on the ice,or black ice, or deep snow, or cold but dry pavement, etc.
I know of several other tires that will beat that tire hands down on many different winter surfaces.

Default good to know...but..

I bought wintersports on purpose, not because of their snow capabilities (which are decent), but for their dry.

food for thought.
