Default Throttle Body Adaption

Does anyone know if the need to do a Throttle Body Adaption (TBA) could be caused by a dead battery?

Is there an easy way of doing a TBA without a VAG-COM? I have heard of things like turning the key to on for 20 seconds... not sure what else must be done. Any help would be appreciated.

Default yes. unplug your battery and plug it back in. put key in ignition, turn to on. wait 90sec

or until the buzzing/clicking in the engine bay to stop. don't press the gas peddle during this time
