Default Throttle body adaption question

I changed a battery in my 98.5 2.8 30V recently and I did not do a throttle body adaption (I just didn't know I had to). After a few days, a CEL went on. I had my car VAGed, and it threw the codes for bad throttle body adaption and all cylinders misfiring. So, the questions are, can bad throttle body adaption cause misfiring of the cylinders? Can I do the throttle body adaption now without the VAG (by turning the key?), or should I use the VAG? TIA

Default Try unplugging the ecu or battery again.

Then turn the key to the on position for 30 seconds and then start it up.
