My car keeps throwing a TPS code. The tech tells me he thinks it needs a new TB. (1997 1.8t) But, he's not sure. I have the TB off now. Any suggestions before I go out and buy a new TB?

i just had that code as well, you probably have a dirty sensor. If in the case it really is dead, buy a used TB from a yunkyard and either use the whole setup or just swap the TPS.

I have the TB off the car, sitting here on my desk right now. The tech told me that if I take the TPS off of the TB, I'll never get it back on correctly. Have you taken the TPS off? Was it hard to reassemble?

I took the cover off the TPS. I sure can't see anything inside there that looks worn. It all looks brand new. But, there's alot of stuff inside there that I wouldn't know how to test. I'm not convinced that there is anything wrong with this TPS.

OK, I could have just gone out and spent 350.oo on a new TB. (Or, 650 at the dealer)
Here's what I did.
1) Disconnect the ECU
2) remove throttle body. (TB)
3) clean throat of TB.
4) remove TPS cover (Need star shaped screwdriver) and carefully blow out inside of sensor with dry air. Be careful, they claim this part is not servicable.
5) Put it all back together, leaving reconnection of ECU until last.
Started up with NO CEL. Still going strong.
