I have a '97 A4 1.8TQM (stock engine) that has slow acceleration times (0-60 approx 10 seconds). Taking it to the dealer, he says there is a Throttle valve control problem code. When they hook up the diagnostic tester, it errors trying to sense the position of the valve. The car idles fine and I don't have any other problems with it running, other than slow acceleration. The Tech said the Turbo and related items check out fine. The dealer wants to replace the entire Throttle Valve Control Unit at a cost of around $500 parts and labor. Shouldn't there be a way to reset the unit or replace just the electrical piece without replacing the whole Throttle Valve assembly?

Hi
Try removing the battery for 20 minutes, then put it back , this normally resets the trottle and the chip, turn the key on and wait for 5 sec for it to reset itself.
hope it works
