I am a new Audi owner and need some help determining when I need to change my timing belt. I just bought a 1997 A4, 1.8T with 72,000 miles. When should I change it? What about the water pump?
Thx!

Search for "timing belt" at ECS' site and look at the ultimate timing belt kit for what you should change.

ECS tuning

Go ahead and change it soon as possible. I bought my car at 65K timing belt was never changed!! Belt broke... and everything after that was a DISASTER!!
1. My starter needed replacement - $300
2. Timing belt needed replacement - $ 95
3. Pistons & Valves damaged(New cylinder head) - $1000(used)
4. Total labor - $1800
So I ended up paying around $3500 and now my car is back to normal.. I dont think anyone would like to do this... So Change the timing belt.. It will be cheaper in the long run!!!
