timing belt / camshaft seizure

I have 87,000 miles on a '99 A4 1.8T Quattro. I knew at the next service I was going to need to have the timing belt done. My engine failed 300 miles from home on July 4th at midnight. The local dealer, So. Burlington, VT, told me at first inspection that the timing belt had failed. After removing the head they told me that the camshaft had seized, pistons were bent and the engine was irrepairable. Estimated cost for a factory rebuilt would be about $6,000.
Does anyone have experience with dealing with AoA with this type of problem. I have maintained the car according to their schedule and feel that I shouldn't have to pay for this myself.

Not sure of the month, it's an early 99. I got it in Nov of 98. And call me oblivious, or worse, but I didn't know, until a couple of days ago, that everyone except audi recommends changing at 60,000. One bit I forgot to add in the first one, they told me that the camshaft most likely seized due to low oil pressure.
And no, no extended warranty.

I had the oil changed at 85,000, and I don't even know what brand. No oil light came on, i was only driving for an hour at highway speeds, the car failed when i was doing thirty after turning onto the road from the off ramp.

But to buy a new motor.
The dealer price is too high though (see link)
Low oil pressure can be caused by the oil pump screen getting clogged with Debris from the timing chain guide (flecks of black plastic).
If the CAM siezed the belt would break.
You could attempt to see if AOA would help you out but its doubtful, 80,000 is the reccommended mileage for a TB change by most manufacturers, 90K is pushing it.
There's a VW 1.8T DBW on eBay, You may be able to convert your's to DBW but other than the ECU and Gas pedal I have no idea what would be involved.
Best of Luck
