Default Timing Belt Job Done

Picked up my car from Shine Racing Service yesterday after my previous post regarding the timing belt tensioner. Looks like they replaced all the belts as well as the tensioner. Total parts was $ 445 and $ 350 for labor ($70/hr). Parts noted were: Timing Belt Tension Roller (058 109 243C) $ 97.05, V-Belt (11x528) $ 15.00, Serpentine Belt (5PK1295) $22.50, Serpentine Belt (4PK856) $ 21.45, Timing Roller Belt (058 109 244) $ 37.60, Timing Belt (058 109 119C) $ 58.30, Timing Belt Tension Damper (058 109 479B) $ 192.75.

From what I've read it's the water pump that "breaks" the timing belt.

Default I just had the timing belt and water pump replaced at

the same time, cost me a little less than $1000 for everything at a non-dealer garage. My car only had 66K on the clock but did not want to chance it.

Default not really, depending on the model year, engine code ATW could be prone to this

The ATW engine has the timing belt drive the water pump, if the things seizes up or sends water all over the place and causes the tensioner to seize up, well then you have a problem.

The earlier engines had a seperate belt drive the water pump seperate from the water pump.

If I were you I would change the water pump.

What is you MY?

Where do you find the engine code ? My car is a '99 (not 99.5). VIN is WAUCB28D1XA027316.

$800 is dirt cheap. I know I wouldn't be doing it for that. 8-)

However, it's foolish not to replace the water pump while you're there.

Cheers,

You likely have an AEB engine. It should be on a sticker near the spare tire in the trunk and on a sticker (with a bar code) under the plastic cover on the top of the engine. It's also stamped on the head just to the right of the upper timing belt cover.

Cheers,
