Timing Belt Maintenance

Hi, I was reading through some of the old conversations about timing belt maintenance and I decided to have this done next week. I have a 1997 A4 1.8T with 68K. I also plan to replace the tensioner. Here is the question, I called Clair Auto Parts for a price quote and they said I could buy the new tensioner kit for $135. Or I could just buy a new tensioner for $65. I wasn't sure which one to buy. Should I replace the only thing?? Also should I replace the serpentine belt and the power steering belt? Thanks for your help. As a woman, this news group has prevented me from being screwed many times. I really appreciate your help.

The tensioner has been known to be a major culprit, but there have also been a fair share of broken (slipping a tooth) belts. Just do all of it while you're there, the belt and the tensioner. It would be wise to go ahead and do the serpentine and PS belt as well. Doing the work yourself, or taking it to a shop? See the FAQ in the tech section? Good luck
