However, make sure there's no slack between that gear and the cam gear or between that gear and the crank gear. Leave all the slack between the crank and the cam on "the left" so the tensioner will deal with it.

I took it right off. No need to worry about alignment.

belt of the cog and shafy itself back on/in. It really is not a great idea to "just spin it if you want"
