Default On removing the radiator...

when i first changed my accessory belts earlier this summer (i had taken it all off a few months ago), i didn't know how it all worked. i didn't want to work in such a tight area...so i took it all off. so when i went to do my t-belt, i just took it all off again because i'd done it before and really doesn't take that long. IMO, it's worth it to take all that stuff off....it made changing the belt alot easier for me. but whatever, i'm definitely not the master mechanic so i'm sure someone (john could do it just fine by just sliding it forward. good luck..

Default I still removed the bumper, but I just pulled the lock carrier out...

about 5-6 inches, and let it hang. Then I had enough room to get in there.

Default I'd have to say that for the little extra time it takes it is much better to remove it as Andy did.

Esp. for a first timer.

Default you are doing ENTIRELY TOO MUCH WORK for this job...

drain the coolant, disconnect the upper & lower hoses, unplug all the connectors(each is unique) at the ps reservoir, unplug the thermoswitch(if there is one), hood pin switch, headlights, blinkers, and A/T lines(if equipped). With the condensor hanging on the right quarter-panel, you can take off the entire assembly...with practice, it only takes 10 minutes...

Default Ok

...i realize that all of this doesn't have to come off. But for the first timer, the novice mechanic, I think it's the best (read: easiest, in that you have plenty of room to work with) way to change the belt. If i were a pro mechanic i'd probly just slide it forward, but i think the majority of the guys who would consider this job are not. So, true it might add an hour or so on to the whole job, it makes the actual t-belt swap ALOT easier, IMO. To each his own...thanks for the input...

Default Great write up. Looking forward to work on this soon.

I'm at 55k now, and will probably do this work myself with some help. Thanks!

Default How about a 2.8 30V?

I'm @70k so my time is coming rapidly. I have the Bentley, a warm, dry garage and plenty of tools.
