Default Timing Belt/Water Pump Service?

I have some questions regarding the TB/WP service on our cars. I have a 2001 A4 1.8T with almost 48k miles. (Yeah, I drive a LOT!) What does Audi officially say for when the timing belt service should be performed? What happens if your timing belt fails before that mileage? Do they pay for the new TB/WP and maybe even the valve train rebuild. Doubtful, but if they recommend say 90k, and it fails at 60k, they should f-ing pay for it.

I know that all of you probably will say that we should do our TB/WP at every 60k miles, no matter what, b/c any Audi with a TB with more than 60k miles on it is on "borrowed time". But, I'd like to know what Audi's official position is on this.

I know that our engines are interference engines, so Audi's stance is that you should pay $800 for TB/WP now or pay $3000-$4000 for new heads later.

Has anyone gotten Audi to pay for their timing belt service under the 50k maintenance warranty?

Default i doubt they'd do it under 50k

they'll inspect the belts, but I doubt they'd change them. Too bad it's the tensioner that 95% of the time fails.

I talked with my local dealer service guys, they said to do it around 70k. My local non-dealer shop and everyone here will recommend you do it before 60k. I haven't heard of anyone getting repair costs covered by AoA for premature timing belt failures, but maybe they'd help out.

Default you can bark.... but I bet they wont bite...

Just do it yourself at 60k or so... I don't think you'll have much luck convincing AoA that some TB mechanics fail prematurely and therefor you should be treated as a special case...
