Default Timing belt/ water pump at stealership

If I decide to have the timing belt and water pump changed by the stealership, will the flush the cooling system also?

Default They are not suppose to save the material - per the Audi manual.

Just ask them - my guess is they will charge you for new antifreeze. I doubt they will flush it - but it will be drained.

Default Why are you having the stealership do it?

Mine quoted me around $800 iirc and I told them to go screw.

Default They will drain it and refill it with fresh coolant.

"Flush" usually involves circulating some kind of cleaner into the system, running the engine, draining it, and refilling with fresh coolant. That would not be included...you would probably have to pay $70 or so to have that done.

are flushes considered a good part of routine maintenance?

Default Not sure...

On a car that doesn't see regular coolant changes, it's probably a good idea. On my mustang, it's probably received 1 coolant change in it's 10 year life. I wash siphoning out coolant from the expansion tank, and noticed crud in there, so I had it flushed.

On a car that's had it's coolant changed every 3-4 years, I'm not sure if it would be necessary. Perhaps evaluating the coolant that is drained might be a good way to proceed? If the drained coolant contains crud, flush the system. If it looks clear, just refill with fresh coolant mix. *shrug* That's probably what I would do, but that doesn't mean that's necessarily the right thing to do.

Default I am approaching 60k soon and was thinking about the timing belt and water pump change

i don't know of any reliable mechanics in the NYC area, but I really would rather not get shafted by the dealer.

Default There has GOT to be a reliable shop

in NYC, Jersey, Yonkers, White Plains, etc. Have you asked on the NY/NJ/CT forum? You can probably get a better deal than the dealership.

Have you posted on the local forum for NYC? You can get some good experiences there.
