Default Timing Chain Tensioner

My Audi A4 1.8M. Have very noisy when low idling. The sound comes from camshaft timing chain. Could someone advise me regarding this? Is it needed to chain the timing chain tensioner or adjust the tensioner.

2001? If its only during cold idle, I wouldn't worry about it.

Default You can't adjust the tensioner only replace it. - How long since you did a tb change

and by the way it is a belt not a chain

Well, I just had to 'grab my ankles' to have indy replace both timing chain adjusters, and because the chain got loose, it clipped a tooth off of the cam chain drive gear.

So, even though the noise subsided when the car warmed up after a cold start, I wouldn't let it go too long. If teeth get chipped, the chain can slip and sieze the engine. Then you are looking a $5K+ to make things right again...

It all started with a small leak in the valve cover gaskets, and 14 hours in th shop later I was out a lot of cash!
