Default Auto programming is designed to maximize fuel economy.

If you want performance, shift manually and keep rpm's above 2500.

Default "D"

Most the miles I do besides in the Audi are in a stick, so drive is fine with me

I do not have a tip chip yet, but plan on getting one. Maybe I will be more likely to shift fer mryself then.

you should use "D" and never buy a manual tranny.

Default I meant when I switch to tip mode it goes automatically to 5th gear

i'm just wondering if this is normal. For ex. 35 mph shouldn't be 5th gear.

Even at low speeds, or standing still? I think mine will start in 5th over 35 or so.

Well from what i understand the point of the manual tranny is to get you into 5th asap. (for better fuel economy) I have switched into tip while accelerating and climbing hills and the car was in 3rd gear. I did it going slow, about 20mph and it put me into 2nd. I think the reason you find it in 5th has to do with when you are ****ing into it.

I do like how it keeps you from blowing the engine by not letting you down shift if it would make the rpm's too high.

Default Do you have a 1.8 or 2.8? My 2000 MY 1.8T downshifts to 4th @ 40 mph...

If I'm going less than 40 mph and I switch it over to tip, it doesn't put me in 5th gear. Do you have a 1.8 or 2.8?
