I have tip shfit in my car. It's fun for a while but then after a couple of weeks you just start to leave it in auto. And the response of the tip shift is quite slow, when you down shift it takes nearly a second to respond (it's probally less than that but that is how it feels). It's not really worth changing.
If you really want to change your trans go for a stick shift.<p>========================================

I have had my A4 Tip for one year and still use the Tip feature about 99% of the time. On my 99.5 shifts are fast and normally there is not that much lag. I use it allmost all the time because I enjoy driving much more when I control what gear I am in. Of course, I also have the buttons which allows me to shift in most situations without taking my hands off the wheel.
I'm not suggesting that it is as fast as standard. However, the ability to be in the gear you want when you want it is to me a major advantage over a regular automatic. Also, when highway driving the ability to shift without a clutch and with the buttons is great.

After test driving a few '97s and '98s, I took the bait and got a '98
'98s have the tip and also some other good points:
sport package have different springs
cd changer is cheaper with the concert radio
check the model guide and see the other differences yourself.

With city start, stop traffic you get tired of tipshift pretty quickly, but on highways or nice twisty roads it is more fun.
i dont have the steering wheel controls though so i cant comment if its better in the city.<p>========================================
