I'm considering buying a '98 A4 with the tiptronic trans (92,000 miles). Can anyone advise me as to the reliability of the tip? I know they are complex and expensive to repair. Thanks

In the past years ,many maufacturers have had problems.Ford and Chrysler are bad on trans GM is less reliable than they had been. But the ZF made trans seem to hold up for all the euro cars.Follow the maintenance and you should get many more miles from it.Page RKA,Phil(Q-frg),or Kris Hansen, they would probably know more.

I had to get my tranny replaced 6 months after I bought my car (brand new). It was a factory defect. I haven't had a problem with the Tip tranny since. I like say I've got a 2001 A4 with a 2001.5 tranny....
