Tiptronic, GIAC chip, engine revs to only to 4500 rpm on kickdown?

I have a 1999.5 A4QTip
I drove down to LA this weekend from SF for the first time since installing the GIAC chip a few months ago. I recently also had a bad MAF sensor replaced a few weeks ago as well.
Driving down the I-5 at about 70 mph, I noticed that when I kickdown on the accelerator in automatic mode, my engine will drop down to 4th gear from 5th and then rev up to 4500 rpm...and stay there.
I tried it in Tip mode as well. I would manually drop into 4th gear and stomp on the pedal. The engine would rev up to 4500 and stick there. I was too scared to drop it to 3rd gear at highway speeds.
Is this normal for Tiptronic cars? I can't quite remember how my car acted pre GIAC chip but I think the car did go to redline when I kicked down on the accelerator.
Could car running in LIMP mode? I don't have any CEL lights. The car seems to accelerate OK when I start from 1st gear.

If not you're in limp mode. If it feels fine then something is very wrong.
Do you have a spare ecu or did you chip the only one you have?
Do you have a Vag-com?

do you continue to accelerate? i know mine will drop down to ~4500 on kickdown and hodl there for a second or two and keep on climbing. try it in 5th gear tip mode as well.

No VAG. I have the stock chip mounted on a circuit board so I can swap out the GIAC if I need to.
...it seems like the I get enough power at the lower gears and that I accelerate ok from 1st gear.
Things seem to drop off at around 4th and 5th gear. It's like hitting a wall. The engine will rev up to 4500 and stop increasing no matter how long and hard I stomp on the pedal. However, I would be accelerating through that but somewhat slowly.
Possibly unrelated: My engine runs a bit hotter after the GIAC chip (used to be 200 degrees, is now about 225). The odd thing is that the engine seems to work better nociably better before it reaches operating temperature.
