Default Tire choices...

Kumho Supra 712 or Sumitomo HTRZ II?

I'm looking to get some new tires within the next month or so in 225/45/17. Anyone have either of these? Any comments or concerns are welcome. I'm looking for a nice combination of performance, comfort, and quietness. The P7000SS tires I have now are almost howling. Any other choices in the same price range +/- $50 or so are welcome as well.

Default Errr... Potenzas are often called Blowtenzas around here... but to each his own.

I happen to like P-Zero Rossos.

Default Just because the Kumho's are cheap does not mean they are bad.

Granted they are no Yokohama AVS or anything like that, but they are not bad tires. Plenty of people have used them and are fairly impressed with performance, but are very impressed with their performance/cost ratio.

He did not say $50 tires. He said costing $50 more or $50 less.

Default I thought Blowtenza only applied to the RE040's, no?

I have the S-02 PP's and they seem pretty good so far...

Default Re: Tire choices...

I have just started on my second set of the HTR Z-II in 235/40 R17. I love these tires. Got almost 40k miles out of the first set. They wear more evenly than any other tire I've owned in the past, handling is incredible, steering response very good, and stopping is very short (only once under hard braking did the anti-locks kick in). As far as noise, they are very quiet until they get some wear on 'em at which time they have minimal noise. However, I've not owned a 50 series or lower tire that did not exhibit noise after some wear. It's the sacrifice you give up for the less rubber between the road and wheel. I would highly recommend these tires. I don't know about the Kumho's other than I did consider them during this last purchase simply because of the price. I didn't mind paying an extra $18/tire though for a tire that had already proven itself to me.

Default I have SP9000s and like them a lot. 280 rating, excellent in wet and dry, and VERY quiet....

even at 135MPH =)
