Default tire pressure (32 psi - 42 psi)?

I have a 1999 Audi 2.8Q with stock tires. The tire pressure guidelines on the inside of the fuel door indicate that the cold tire pressure should be 32 psi to 42 psi. What does this mean? i.e., Next to theses numbers are diagrams of a lightly loaded car and a fully loaded car. Does the diagram imply that if your car is lightly loaded, then the tires should be at 32 psi? or does it imply if you plan to drive it lightly loaded, than the tires should be at 32 psi?

Default Re: tire pressure (32 psi - 42 psi)?

Probably you are having 16" rims on your car... I have 15" (195/65-15) and most of the time carrying 2 people... I found that 35-36 psi feels the best. My car goes very sluggish at 32. (1.8TQ)
