Tire Pressure Question -- Weird

I just have a shop to put on a set of new tires to my car. I got the same size tire for the replacement. Before I left, I told them to put 36 psi inflation into the tire. The store owner told me that, even the size is the same, it doesn't mean I have to follow the factory recommended tire pressure. He said indeed I shouldn't follow. The max load for my old Bridgestone RE940 is 44 psi, and I am happiest with 36 psi cold tire in it. However, I swap a set of Dunlop SP5000 and the store owner WARN me that, the new max load for that tire is 51 psi, so I should keep it at 47 psi. And he even told me that i should have keep the old RE940 at 40 psi instead of 36 psi, which is 1 psi over the recommended by the factory... Is that the true case? Same size of tires, different psi for different brand? He even linked the Ford/Firestone case with this... kind of worried, please help.
